About the National Digital Learning Repository

The National Digital Learning Repository (NDLR) is a sectoral initiative, providing services and support to enable the sharing of digital learning content and teaching experience across Universities, Institutes of Technologies and associated Colleges funded by the HEA. The NDLR mission is "to promote and support Higher Education sector staff in the collaboration, development and sharing of learning resources and associate teaching practices". The NDLR provides an online repository to support collaboration and sharing of teaching and learning resources within the Irish Third Level Education sector.

The NDLR provides infrastructure to support subject or discipline based communities in higher education.

These communities, known as Communities of Practice have been formed to aid collaboration and communication within certain academic disciplines across the Universities and Institutes of Technology.

Objectives of the NDLR

The NDLR aims to:

  • Support individual, group and community HE sector staff in the sharing of digital learning resources and associated teaching practices.
  • Provide access to storage, search and retrieval facilities for shared resources
  • Promote sharing across HE sector by events and training
  • Support open access digital rights management. The NDLR will therefore provide an umbrella organisation which supports:
  • A portal to support sharing of digital resources
  • The execution of both a portal and repository for storage and sharing
  • Coordinating communication within and across communities (subject communities)
  • Encouraging individuals in the usage and sharing of digital resources

Key impacts and benefits of NDLR

The NDLR will provide a means of:

  • Improving the quality of the teaching resources used within the Universities, Institutes of Technology and associated HE sector within Ireland
  • Enhance the teaching practice associated with the use of digital learning resources within the HE sector via sharing of good practice and digital resources
  • Encourage a reduction in the cost of teaching via sharing and reuse of digital resources in teaching across the HE sector in Ireland
  • From this site, you can find information on obtaining an account for the NDLR. The NDLR also delivers regular workshops and seminars to educate academics and teachers in the third level sector in Ireland about the services of the NDLR
