Researching Open Source Lecture Capture Systems:
UCC is a contributor to the Opencast Community, and in particular the development of a new media tool, Matterhorn. Matterhorn is an open source project to develop an end-to-end, open source platform that supports the scheduling, capture, managing, encoding and delivery of educational audio and video content. (http://www.opencastproject.org) UCC is implementing a pilot project for Matterhorn in 2010.
Other Learning Resource Development Projects:
UCC's LTU's core business is in supporting the UCC academic community in their use, development and re-deployment of RLRs through the NDLR. The unit provides knowledge, support, training and with the aid of the Computer Centre and Audio Visual Services equipment. Staff are encouraged to contribute to resources via the NDLR. When the new NDLR service was launched in April 2010, a promotional plan was implemented in UCC to promote further use of the repository.
As regards further RLR development projects the Department of Nursing & Midwifery (Nuala Walshe) are collaborating with NUI Galway and UL in the area of clinical skills with assistance of the UCC Institutional Coordinator (Grace O’Leary).
