Rogelio discusses the course Language through Theatre and the project T.A.L.L.E.R which he has been developing in the University of Bristol. Rogelio talks about his background, and how his interest in the arts led to his developing the Language through Theatre course. He also discusses how he sees the T.A.L.L.E.R. project developing and hopefully growing in the future.

Ivanna discusses the 2008 European Award for Languages, the criteria required for applications and also details of how to apply for the award. Ivanna also gives examples of three of the eight winning projects of the 2007 European Award. Details of all the winning projects can be found here.

Philippe Blanchet is a lecturer of sociolinguistics and language teaching and the director of the centre for research on linguistic diversity in the French-speaking work (CREDIF) in l’Universite Rennes 2 Haute-Bretagne. Both in France and internationally, he regularly runs research and training programmes on the management of multilingualism.

Elizabeth Murphy-Lejeune is a lecturer of French as a foreign language in St Patrick’s College, Dubin. She has collaborated on many European projects dealing with the ongoing training of language teachers, innovation in education, student mobility and intercultural education.

Brídín delivers a very insightful overview of the work the PPLI do and their plans for the future, including promoting, encouraging and supporting secondary schools in diversification of languages being taught. Brídín also highlights the areas in which our third level colleagues can get involved with the PPLI, and sees much scope for development across the second and third level communities in the future.

(9) 14 September 2006. Teaching German in Ireland: Politics and Perspectives: an interview with Prof. Hans-Walter Schmidt-Hannisa, NUI Galway.
Hans-Walter is the local coordinator of the Conference of the Association of Third-Level Teachers in Ireland being hosted in NUI Galway on October 7 2006 from 11.00 am-4.30pm. Maeve is one of the principle organisers of the joint annual conference of the British Association for Applied Linguistics (BAAL), and the Irish Association for Applied Linguistics (IRAAL) being hosted at University College Cork from September 7-9. (7) 4 July 2006. An Overview of the Institute of Technology (IoT) Language Policy Network – an interview with Kristen Brogen, Lecturer in German at ITT Tralee.
On May 15th the IoT Language Policy Network was initiated with a view to exploring aspects of existing policies and examining the extent to which a college Language Policy can be a successful tool in the promotion of languages and other skills relating to the learning of languages. The aim of the IoT Language Policy Network is to adopt a pro-active approach and to foster greater inter-institutional collaboration for languages in the IoT sector to the benefit of all participants. Prof. Pádraig Ó Gormaile and Dr. Máire Aine Ní Mhainnín co-authored Jean Sulivan: Libre sous le regard de dieu – a recently published book on the writer-priest who offered a challenging and penetrating reflection on his vocation in secular France in the 1960s. In this podcast, Prof. Pádraig Ó Gormaile talks about Jean Sulivan, his writings, and their place within the French literary tradition. He highlights Sulivan’s ideas which rapidly found willing listeners among ‘uncertian Christians’ of the day, and their relevance for the contemporary reader.
