The Modern Languages’ Community of Practice Symposium

Your very own Modern Languages’ CoP is organising a symposium to take place on Friday the 5th December 2008 in NUI Galway. The symposium will be free to attend and will host a keynote talk by Joe Dale, followed by NUI Galway practitioner showcases. After lunch a meeting on the future of the Modern Languages’ CoP will proceed three parallel workshops: The use of cinema in the languages classroom; A podcasting workshop; Blogs in the language classroom.

The workshops will be limited to 12 people per workshop. Registration is now open. As this event is limited to a maximum of 36 people, you are advised to register early. More details available here.

Translation Right Or Wrong


Keynote speakers:

Papers relevant to the suggested themes, or at least to the conference title, should be 25 minutes long. Abstracts should be sent to cato@tcd.ie.

The conference fee will be ¤40, including tea, coffee and a wine reception.

Language Policy and Language Learning: New Paradigms and New Challenges

The Irish Association for Applied Linguistics / Cumann na Teangeolaíochta Feidhmí will host this large international conference immediately after a meeting of the AILA Executive Board and International Committee in the university.

The conference is concerned with all aspects of language policy and the learning of languages. It will address the status and form of languages as well as acquisition policies pertaining to their teaching and learning. It will welcome papers, posters and panels on promoting and managing language policy and research on the development, implementation and effects of language policy in all regions of the world. The organisers will particularly welcome studies that contribute to language policy theory, both in regard to language learning and other domains.
