Workshop resources on Google Docs and podcasting added to the NDLR

Google Docs – a presentation and handout for a 1 hour introductory workshop to Google Docs and the word-processing application – see also http://elearn.itcarlow.ie/topic/GoogleDocs.htm for a description of Google Docs, a screencast showing some basic features and useful links.Podcasting – a presentation for a 1 hour introductory workshop to podcasting – see also http://elearn.itcarlow.ie/topic/podcasts.htm & http://elearn.itcarlow.ie/topic/audacity.htm for information on the educational uses of podcasting and screencasts & links for Audacity.

If anyone wants copies of the screencast files, please contact Damien Raftery. Note that the files are Office 2007  – for some reason when uploaded to the NDLR, the file extension changed to .zip – if you manually change it back to .docx or .pptx it will open as normal.

Readability removes distractions from a webpage

Readability is a bookmarklet that allows you to quickly remove distracting ads from a Website.  Just choose the text and margin size you prefer and drag the bookmarklet up to your bookmarks toolbar.  Whenever you’re on a site that is cluttered with too many distractions, click on the Readability bookmarklet and you’ll be presented with an ad-free environment to read your article.”

So writes demogirl in her recent blog post, in which she has a screencast showing how. I tried it with an article from the Irish Times website and it worked a treat.
